'Scopaesthesia' is the phenomenon in which people can essentially feel themselves being watched. This is the feeling that this piece intends to convey. This painting attempts to portray the idea that sometimes we may be the ones being viewed in a gallery, contrary to the reason we may go; in an art gallery, with so much history and thought embedded into each work, it is surely impossible to feel completely alone.

I hope that 'scopaesthesia' encourages viewers to ponder the possibility that inanimate objects have more animate qualities than we may assume. Memories and the past are ingrained into each brush stroke or pencil mark that is put down, bringing a new meaning to the phrase 'if these walls could talk'.
