'Affinity with others' is the sequel to the 'Nymph' series. The intention of this series was to highlight the importance of solitude, and demonstrate the beauty that can be found within loneliness if we overcome that initial fear of being alone. In contrast to 'Nymph', this piece flaunts an abundance of bright, satured colour, portraying the vibrant appeal of extroversion and its deceptive confidence.
Although the atmosphere of this painting may convincingly portray a sense of energy, the 'faceless' nymphs featured resting on the pagoda symbolise a lost sense of self. I find that identity crises occur when adequate time is not taken to discover the personal preferences that can only be realised whilst alone. When the mirror in front of someone truly reflects them, and not their surroundings or societal standards, real beauty can be observed. This is such a special experience that further proves the value within solitude.
I hope its viewers will think about their own experience with feeling loneliness, and consider the benefits they have received from it, whether this be drive, creativity, or appreciation of self.
